The Table Bay Hotel
V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
The property
Between the mountain and the harbour.
The Table Bay Hotel stands on the water at the V&A Waterfront with Table Mountain on one side and the working harbour on the other. It was opened in May 1997 by Nelson Mandela, then President, and for nearly thirty years it has been the Cape Town hotel visitors picture when they think of the city.
In August 2026 it reopened as the InterContinental Table Bay after a refurbishment of around R1 billion, the first InterContinental in Cape Town. The hotel is owned by the V&A Waterfront, operated by Sun International and branded under IHG Hotels & Resorts. The room count came down from 329 to 306 while the number of suites rose from 18 to 40, and the hotel gained a new spa with a Turkish hammam, a large elevated pool terrace, a Club InterContinental lounge, new event spaces, a cheese library and a renovated Le Bistrot de JAN by the Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.
A landmark hotel welcomes guests from every corner of the world, and the amenities in the room are part of the first impression it makes.
The partnership
Hospitality Classics has supplied the hospitality trade from Johannesburg since 1972. We make three ranges of our own, Elements, Soak and Botánico, and we import Molton Brown from London for the trade in Africa. For a property like this one the work is less about a single product than about a standard: a room set that is right for the guest, delivered on time, in the sizes and quantities housekeeping needs, every week of the year.
That means hotel sizes alongside full retail formats, consistent fragrance across bath, body and hair care, and packaging that can carry the property's own identity. It also means an account manager who knows the hotel, forecasts with it around peak season, and keeps the back-of-house stocked without the property having to think about it.

What a guest finds when the door closes.
-
01
Bath and body
Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in matching fragrance, in hotel sizes that are generous without being wasteful, with full retail formats for suites and the spa.
-
02
Soap and small comforts
Wrapped or boxed soaps, vanity kits, shower caps and the small things housekeeping is judged on: the right item in the right place, replaced before anyone notices it was used.
-
03
Bespoke and back of house
Packaging that carries the property's own mark, dispensers and five-litre refills where the hotel prefers them, and a supply schedule built around the property's occupancy.
A landmark makes a first impression on the world every day. The room is where it is kept.
